=============================================================================== SONIC.EXE THE DISASTER 2D REMAKE - PS3 port (by PenguinEhis) How to play on a real PS3 and on RPCS3 (PC) =============================================================================== This is the PS3 version of Sonic.exe The Disaster 2D Remake. It plays online with the same servers as the PC version, and it also has an offline practice mode. The game comes as one file, for example "sonicps3 V1.0.pkg" (about 390 MB). It installs like any other PS3 package and shows up on the XMB in the Game column as "Sonic.exe The Disaster 2D Remake". ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. PLAYING ON A REAL PS3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You need: - A PS3 that can run homebrew: custom firmware (CFW) or PS3HEN. If you don't have that yet, look up "PS3 homebrew guide" (for example consolemods.org, PS3 section). - With PS3HEN: HEN must be enabled (run the "PS3HEN Enabler" from the XMB) every time you turn on the PS3, before starting the game. - A USB stick (FAT32) to copy the .pkg to the PS3. - About 400 MB free on the PS3's hard drive. Install: 1. Copy the .pkg to the root of the USB stick (the top level, not inside a folder). 2. Plug the stick into the PS3 (the USB port on the right is best). 3. On the XMB go to Game > Package Manager > Install Package Files (on some setups: Game > Install Package Files > Standard), pick the .pkg and wait for the install to finish. 4. Start "Sonic.exe The Disaster 2D Remake" from the Game column. Updating to a new version: Install the new .pkg the same way. Your settings and achievements are kept. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. PLAYING ON RPCS3 (PC) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You need RPCS3 (rpcs3.net) with the PS3 system software installed (File > Install Firmware, with PS3UPDAT.PUP from Sony's website). Install: 1. In RPCS3: File > Install Packages/Raps/Edats, choose the .pkg. 2. The game appears in RPCS3's game list. IMPORTANT settings (right-click the game > Create Custom Configuration): - CPU tab: SPU Decoder = "Recompiler (ASMJIT)". With the default "Recompiler (LLVM)" RPCS3 itself crashes as soon as the music starts (a bug in RPCS3, not in the game). - Network tab: Network Status = "Connected", to play online. The first start takes a few minutes: RPCS3 compiles the game first. Later starts are fast. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. PLAYING ONLINE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Real PS3 only: the PS3 must be connected to the internet (Settings > Network Settings > Test Connection). 2. In the game's title menu choose "Server" and type the server address, for example: my.server.com or 123.45.67.89:8606 (8606 is the normal port; you can leave it out). 3. Choose "Nickname" and type your name. 4. Choose "Play online". In the lobby press X to say you are ready. When the match starts you are a survivor or the EXE. Press O twice in the lobby to leave the server. While in the lobby, vote and character select, hold SELECT to see all the players and the whole chat. The on-screen keyboard (server, nickname, chat): D-pad / stick move X type the letter O delete Square capital letters (or the Shift key) START OK SELECT cancel The game keeps running while you type in a match, so be careful! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. CONTROLS (DualShock 3 / Sixaxis) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Move Left stick or D-pad Jump Cross (X) Special Circle (O) Ability Square Chat Triangle Emotion 1/2/3 L1 / R1 / L2 (or R2) Player panel hold SELECT (in a match or in practice) Back / quit START (in practice: back to the title menu) Quit the game PS button > Quit Game Menus: X = choose, O = back, D-pad or stick to move. The in-game buttons can be changed in Settings > Button mapping. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. OFFLINE PRACTICE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Title menu > "Offline practice": use Left / Right to pick the character, then X. You play alone in the levels to learn them. Hold SELECT and press L1 / R1 next / previous level START back to the title menu "Level viewer" lets you look around the levels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. SETTINGS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TV screen Auto (uses the PS3's video setting), 16:9 or 4:3. On an old square TV (4:3) the view is taller: you see more of the level above and below. Camera look-ahead The camera moves ahead of where you are facing. Backgrounds, Parallax, Effects, Weather, Screen overlays Visual extras you can turn off. Music / Sound Volume from 0 to 10. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. PROBLEMS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The game can't start - The game files were not found" The installation is incomplete. Install the .pkg again. "The game files don't match this version of the game" Install the .pkg again (old and new files are mixed). The game does not start at all (real PS3 with HEN) Enable HEN first (PS3HEN Enabler on the XMB), then start the game. RPCS3 closes as soon as the music starts Set SPU Decoder to "Recompiler (ASMJIT)" (see part 2). Cannot connect to the server Check the server address and port, and the network connection (real PS3: Settings > Network Settings > Test Connection; RPCS3: Network Status = Connected in the game's custom configuration). Wrong picture shape (stretched / squashed) Settings > TV screen: choose 16:9 or 4:3 to match your TV. The game crashes To help fix it: in the game's folder (/dev_hdd0/game/SNXD00001/USRDIR, with a file manager like multiMAN or IRISMAN, or RPCS3's dev_hdd0 folder) create a text file named sonicps3.cfg containing only the letter F Play until it crashes again; the game writes sonicps3.log in the same folder. Send that file, a photo of the screen, and the version shown at the bottom-right of the title screen (for example v1.0). Delete sonicps3.cfg afterwards.
